In Judy Brady's essay "I Want a Wife" Brady uses satire to explain how she would love to have a wife. This wife would be the ideal housewife that would have dinner on the table, take care of the children, clean the house and basically do all the work.
I admire the way Brady uses satire to show how great it would be if we all basically had our own perfect personal wife that was completely devoted to us. The reader can tell that she has strong convictions against the typical housewife status that many women fall into. Also how she shows all the work that is really out into being a housewife for people who truly want to live their lives by being a stay at home mother. They do not have cake jobs where they can do whatever they want to do. They have to constantly be taking care of their children, their husband, and their house while holding a job of their own. The authors point is very easy to realize early on in the essay and follows through well. Even though the essay is mostly repetitive it does not seem to be redundant.
While the author presents the problem of the ideal of wife she does not say present a way to break free from this stereotype. Or show that she has broken free from this stereotype besides writing this probably controversial essay.
Overall I consider the essay effective in showing how the ideal housewife should break away from having to be supported by someone and working for them to being self sufficient within a relationship. Having said that I do not find the essay to be persuasive, I do not see the reader turning completely women's rights. They have been presented with the problem but have been given no avenue to turn away from the housewife idea.
This essay relates to Medea because Jason wants the idea housewife. He also wants to have the right to be able to dump his kids on his wife and leave them for another women. Jason does not see a problem with this idea even though its a horrible thing to do to anyone. He is treating Medea like a hooker by offering her money as she is being exiled from the city. He is marrying the daughter of Creon because she has money and he will be pampered.
