Medea Quote

"When someone isn't seen for a long time,
Well, folk soon begin to imagine the worst."
This quote from Medea depicts an ugly but true side of gossip. So many times in our day to day life, when people are absent, rumors begin to fly. When a classmate has been sick for a few days, the gossip says that the person HAS swine flu, no doubt about it. When a friend has been absent from social activities, she isn't busy, but depressed. What causes us to believe these things about people?
Just because they have dropped below the radar for a while does not mean that we should expect the worst. But for some reason, humans always seem to do just that. An interesting thing about this quote shows that while it held true in Medea's time, it still has accuracy in the modern times of today's day and age. Some things just never change.
