Sometimes, throughout our lifetime, we have to stop and ask ourselves how we got to where we are now. The people we meet and the things we do, whether for better or for worse, seem to fit together so perfectly, as if by chance, that some people have asked the question do we really have control over the course of our life? or do we merely live ourlives on a predestined course toward what we were meant to accomplish? While many people ponder this belief i do not believe in fate. I do not believe that, jus because unique things happen, things are fated to happen. If i choose to work at say, Freddy's rather than The Warren, i will meet an entirely different group of kids working there. The fact that I meet and experience a totally different group of kids at Freddy's rather than The Warren does not mean i was destined to meet those kids. It means I made the choice to work at Freddy's instead of The Warren.
Nevertheless, the idea of fate is a subject of interest for many people. In Sophocles' play, Oedipus Rex, Oedipus is destined to do a horrible deed in his lifetime. This story is interesting because of the irony of the idea that, because something is prophesized, it leads to that event happening in the end. This gives the story the appearence of fate. It is as if, no matter what the character did in his life, he would have ended up fulfilling his prophecy in the end. Yet, one could easily see that, had Oedipus been raised by his real parents, he would have known better than to kill his father and marry his mother as he would have known who his father and mother were.
