I don’t believe that there is a force that governs our life. However I do believe that from birth every person has a pre-set life in front of him or her, this is due to how the upbringing of parents, and family will effect on how a child will act in public. On top of the unique mental state that every child has, there really are no options for children to plan their own destiny. Furthermore everything that happens to a person is an inevitable outcome of their upbringing and mental state.
In Oedipus case he really had no other choice than to kill his father. This is because, as I read Oedipus Rex, and having prior knowledge of his situation, it reminds me of watching a re-run of a tv show. As I watched the show I think of how much easier it would have been for the main character if only he didn’t make that stupid mistake. However if the main character in a tv show did not make that dumb mistake the show would not have a plot and would essentially be over in the first five minutes. In Oedipus Rex, his fate was inevitable, because without such actions there would not be a story.
