Fate vs. Choice

The question of whether one's destiny is chosen by fate or choice is one that has been reviewed for numerous years. I personally believe that people, as corny as this sounds, have the power to make their dreams come true. Back in the olden days people's "destiny" was chosen for them because their jobs and social statuses were decided for them at birth, so the world chose these baby's fate. Now a days if you work hard and get good grades you can go to pretty much any school you want; if you are so determined that all you do is spend your time studying for the SAT/ACT so you can get a scholarship and actually attend said school.
In this world you make your own fate when it comes to school, jobs, and who you want to marry (unless you are of a culture that makes you have an arranged marriage). I do believe that things like when you are going to fall in love, get in car wrecks, and die are all based on fate and you aren't going to change it, if you are going to die you were obviously meant to go on that day. Oedipus had a different situation though.
Oedipus sadly enough had no chance at all that his fate was going to turn out differently than it did. His parents tried to prevent him from marrying his mother and killing his father by having him killed, but it didn't happen, coincidence? I think not, if he was meant to die then he would have, and he did end up killing his father and marrying his mother which is just what his destiny was! There was no way this could have been prevented unless the baby was actually killed, and he wasn't. Just another simple twist of fate...
