Whats in a Title

"A Doll's House" is a very appropriate title for Ibsen's work. This is so because of all the references Nora makes to being treated as none less than a doll. Her father treated her as a doll in her youth, and when she aged into an adult, her husband treated her in the same manner. Nora was not to have her own opinions or think outside of the box. She was merely a play thing-- something nice to look at and talk to. In every case in the story, Nora was treated like a playdoll, so there is every reason to title the story, "A Doll's House".
