Black and Blue

In this song there is a very literal parallel between the Invisible Man and the person of whom Black and Blue is speaking about. The song lyrics give examples of when the character is ignored, like when he is out on the street and nobody acknowledges him even though he is standing right beside somebody on the street. In Invisible Man he is metaphorically invisble in the same manner that he is physically standing next to people but those people don't see him for what or who he really is. Also, the song talks about how the man is "ehite inside", and that is, in a way, what Invisible Man is, or tries to accomplish. He wants to make himself sound as educated as possible so he fits in better socially wiht white people. He tries to forget his southern roots and mannerisms.
I don't think that I have been inspired by a song like Ralph Ellison has, as demonstrated by Black and Blue. I rarely actually take into account what a song is saying. I know the lyrics and I sing along with them, but I don't think much about them.
